Asia is calling!

What
Mika and Ruut Ahonen have been invited to the collaborative project of Avainmedia and Fida in Asia to train individuals in media work, coordinate tasks, and establish media centers supporting churches.
Where
Initially, the work will focus on unreached people groups in Southeast Asia, partly in South Asia, and as the project progresses, in East Asia.
When
The Ahonen family’s relocation to Asia will take place in the beginning of 2024. During the fall of 2023, Mika and Ruut have been in Thailand conducting training and preparing for the next steps of the project.
Why
to Asia
Asia
1> Asia is home to over 4.7 billion people
2> 2.9 billion of them have not heard the Gospel
3> Of all the world’s internet users, 57.9% are in Asia
4> Social media is an effective tool for reaching them
5> Guidance and training is needed to create content and to use different media channels
What will
be
Done
Training
The starting point and skills of churches to use media are weak, which is why even small steps can make a big difference in reaching people. The trainings use a media trap and a three-step production model, which are easy and quick to learn without previous media experience.
Media Centres
The aim of the centres, which will be set up on a country-by-country basis, is to serve churches in challenging content productions that require tools and studio facilities. They will also produce content for closed countries where Christians are not free to operate. In addition, the media centres serve as training places for churches and people in closed countries and as links to an international network. The Media Centres are funded through the Business & Mission budget.
Development and Coordination
The aim of the project is to set up a direct operation, managed by a local person and staffed by local people. Mika and Ruut and other international partners will act as trainers, consultants and mentors for them.
